We ordered one small rubbish bin and a recycling bin way back in April. A week after the new collections began in June we had none. Three internet requests, one telephone call and intervention from a local councillor moved us on a bit last week - but brought us two large wheelie bins instead of one small and one large. We left the large rubbish bin outside with a note on it saying "Please remove. Awaiting delivery of correct (smaller) bin". Seems pretty clear. Today the bin delivery lorry turned up. They took the large bin but failed to leave anything in its place. Fortunately a neighbour alerted us, and we finally got what we'd ordered after my husband stood in the middle of the road and refused to move until they'd delivered the small bin we'd ordered. We have neighbours still awaiting the correct delivery. Is there anyone with inside knowledge who can shed any light on what has happened? Are the wheelie bin delivery men unable to read? Are they given the wrong instructions? Between the internet request/phone call and delivery, what happens? In a borough where 44% of households have only one or two people in them, who decided that everyone should have a giant recycling bin - and why? At what point , from the director downwards, do things go wrong? If anyone has inside knowledge (facts, please - theories are interesting but won't get us anywhere) - please would they make them public?
