West Ealing station

Anyone else being driven slowly mad by the continuous thumping from construction of West Ealing station? I'm amazed they're allowed to work all 3 days of Easter so far, including starting at 8am (7am before the hour change!) on Easter Sunday....it's doing my hangover no good whatsoever

I flew in from Belfast last night so had to get the Piccadilly and the bus instead of a 14 minute connect train to home as the works mean an early finish for us Hanwell and West Ealing people. so the lack of trains can be a real pain.

Absolutely agree it's a great boon for the area. I've also now seen the article on the front page which explains that the Easter weekend building work had been planned in order to minimise travel disruption, which is understandable. I just wish it could have been a bit quieter. I usually really enjoy bank holidays in London when there's been a mass exodus and Ealing feels very tranquil. Not this time.

I was involved in some early discussions from local residents and crossrail. one worry I had that an expensive rebuild of Hanwell might not happen but the selective door opening operation was a godsend as they needed it for a couple of other stations so it seemed ideal for Hanwell as they would have had to move people out from several houses for around 18 months to do the extension. also took about £170m (price at the time) off the overall budget. the fear was that the passenger numbers might not have been enough to justify the expenditure and given the proximity to West Ealing we could have lost our station. so this is the cost and the pain for some months. However neighbours of crossrail may reap the benefits financially if we sell our houses. My plan is to cash in and downsize. at the moment our rail service after 9 in the evening does not exist.

I appreciate that Network Rail have to maximise the work programme when the slow lanes are shut down but, reading the news story on the front web page, it would appear there are two option for piling -  "both the quieter vibration method of piling(night time), and the hammer method (day time) which is likely to be very noisy." So over a B/H weekend why could they not have opted for the quieter option during the day as well?  Possibly slower and/or more expensive?

You seem to be in the know Peter....how is it they can get away with working thru the Easter weekend, especially when it's such noisy work?

This was for platform work. However at Hanwell there will be no platform extension as they are using Selective Door Opening. But work to install lifts will be happening at some point. So hopefully not too painful.

We were at Waitrose on Friday and the noise was pretty bad, I pity anyone having to endure it for the whole Easter weekend

That was my understanding too Debbie. I appreciate that they must be under time pressure, but this is ridiculous. All day long donking (appropriate word) throughout the whole bank holiday weekend, it's unbelievably loud too!!

Yes.Isn't there a requirement for no noisy work after 1pm on Saturday and none at all on Bank Holidays and Sunday's?In my household we are using the word donking.
