Home insurance

We are just looking to renew our building/contents policy.  Any recommendations or otherwise. Particularly interested in how claims have been handled.  Many thanks.

I always try to stay with my existing insurance provider,just try to get a better deal on renewal.Nfu mutual have been very helpful to my friends during the recent poor weather.

I've always found moneysavingexpert.com a really useful source of advice on things like insurance, banks, changing gas/electricity suppliers etc. Unbiased and I've saved quite a bit by following their suggestions. Not owned by any of the aforementioned, but was independent until bought by moneysupermarket.com a couple of years ago. And still independent editorially.

Yes, try as many as possible to get as wide a search as possible.

The web sites you suggest are owned by the insurance companies themselves, so expect each to promote policies provided by their group.

Hi Pat, sorry if I am stating the bleeding obvious but I would use a comparison site like gocompare, confused, comparethemarket etc. I did so recently and got a £200+ cheaper quote than my renewal quote from Aviva. The funny thing is the broker (computerquote) is underwritten by Aviva for exactly the same cover.
