Helicopters

Living under the flightpath which follows the A40 we see three different kinds of helicopter. Most look black and are single engine. Then there are the same but red. Fewest of all are the twin engines. Can anyone give more information as to these three types?

The black ones with yellow engine covers are MetPol air support.Red ones are probably the Air Ambulance Service.The twin rotors (Chinooks) are mostly military,sometimes (probably not over Ealing) they're used for heavy lifting (pylons,bridges etc).

I'd be surprised if many of the helicopters you see over the A40 are single-engined.  Don't be misled by the number of rotors, most twin-engined helicopters only have a single main rotor.
