G4s  driving and parking on pavements

I asked for a freedom of information request  into if g4s cash vehicles have received any fines for driving and parking on the footpath at Halifax bank Greenford Broadway Although the bus stop where this office occurs regularly  is heavily monitored by cctv  parking camera  it appears they ignore all rules and regulations governing this illeagle move. They never have been ticketed they cause a footpath obstruction and endanger pedestrians. By driving  on the pavement I ask the police and parking department  and cctv. To deal with this matter before someone gets injured.

Someone is far more likely to get injured if they don't park on the pavement.The further these guys walk carrying cash, the greater risk they are at.So are members of the public.I know.I used to drive these vans, and in the time I did this job, I was robbed at gunpoint 14 times.3 of those times I was shot at, but fortunately not injured.In that same period, from the branch where I worked, 3 of my colleagues were shot and killed.One was shot through the neck and paralysed from the chest down.Another was crippled after being shot in the thigh at point blank range with a shotgun.The shot tore the entire muscle away from the bone.Many more were shot and injured or had amonia thrown in their face.Two others were stabbed.So it might be inconvenient for people if the vans drive up on the pavement, but in the long run by doing that, it actually makes it safer for everyone.You don't want to be anywhere near an armed robbery I can assure you.

It's where I work at the moment so it isn't my local forum. Apart from that the company in question needs a traffic management plan not more spending by us on bollards.

I know that cash delivery vehicles can ignore certain rules but they certainly should never get on the pavement.  They are given some flexibility in parking to reduce the risk to their staff.  Endangering the public by getting on the pavement is against the law for them as well as everyone else.  This is hard to enforce as the vehicles do not hang around waiting for tickets.  I would suggest that the best thing is to talk to the most senior person at the Halifax and remind them that this makes them look bad.  Usually works.  Failing that start publishing photos of the G4S vehicle on the pavement.

Hi Albertina,Whilst the FOI is looking at the historic data, why don't you put forward a suggestion to your local ward forum to put some nice bollards along the pavement to stop drivers parking on the pavement. Or instead of bollards I am using tree planters in one my ward projects. Less of the street furniture. Best wishes,Joanna

Has the footway been damaged by vehicles parking on it? If it has try an FoI request about the cost over a period of two or three financial years for that street. I've been trying to get parking enforcement to do something effective about HGVs obstructing pavements in Elveden Rd, Park Royal which is just within L B of Ealing. The company to which deliveries are being made by these vehicles were treating it as their own private road and disregarding pedestrian safety. I was almost killed by one driver who didn't even see me as he pulled onto the pavement. Emails to councillors proved a waste of time. What really had an effect was the news that the council had spent over £27,000 of our money across three years repairing pavements in one street. The company in question haven't contributed anything and are now paying attention, as are drivers whose companies don't want to pay for the repairs.

Although whether they've written to their MP's about it is maybe another matter.michael adams
