I hear that JM was on £12,000,000 a year. RA says money no object in hiring a replacement. This weekend we were reminded that Jimmy Hill was responsible for letting footballers earn more than £20 a week. It is a world gone mad.

I suspect that all pastimes/hobbies/sports can be analysed and trivialised as pointless (example I can read a book that I enjoy then hard pressed to recall the story a month later).As cavemen I guess survival, was the main and only aim but hopefully we can now all enjoy our own individualist, but ultimately pointless, spare time activities.  Even wasting time on this forum - hmmmm what is the point?

Ah Debbie......Debbie, Debbie, Debbie, Debbie.What are we to do, eh?As I've said, if you dont get it, you'll never get it. I accept that and dont expect others to understand or accept. However, I'm sure that one day the time will come that people will have to "socially accept" us football fans and maybe, if we try really, really hard, we can be  accepted by the liberalista's of this world and ranked alongside (or maybe just below) the youth gangs, illegal immigrants and various other international gangsters "seeking a better life that the superior classes seem to readily accept in the UK.Safety in numbers? Have a word with yourself!!! Two of the contributors on this thread are QPR fans!! Hardly a massive army and probably one of the least well supported clubs in the South (but what we lack in number we double in passion)Anyway, I'll wish you a Merry Christmas and wont spoil the surprise by telling you that book shaped prezzie under the tree is actually "How To Be Condescending For Dummies" 2015 update. Is there an Ealing Today football team Simon? Just that you say "us".  Maybe you own a football team? Or are perhaps a player in a team?None of the above? More likely you have handed over vast amounts of cash in the hope that you will find some sense of belonging in a crowd of others. Safety in numbers and at least you can make fun of anyone who doesn't care much by calling them "Trainspotters" in an attempt for you to feel better about yourself.It's a bit sad really.Hope Charlie gets better soon. Whoever he might be.

Colin, you can't explain it.Rather like trying to tell someone like me what it's like to smoke, I will never understand how anyone can enjoy that.Just hope Charlie's injury is not a sign that he is off, after all and doesn't want to be risked.

Football and being a fan cannot be explainedIf you don't get it then you simply don't get it and never will, it cannot be rationally explainedI get asked about this every now and then, especially as I follow the R's home and away, and now give up trying to explain it. Spending £X travelling 100's of miles to watch terrible football, almost always a defeat, in the cold the wind and the rain, treated like a second class citizen by police and authorities and herded around. Doing all that on a Saturday with your mates ---- there's nothing better in the world!!!

Can somebody explain to me why football matters at all in the slightest?I mean it's a great game to play, but I can't understand why people that have no direct personal involvement in the team get so excited by it.Serious question.
