South Ealing Road, Popes Lane & Little Ealing Pane junction - emergency works

From Ealing Council's Highways department:I am writing regarding a broken water main that has occurred in South Ealing Road junction with Popes Lane and Little Ealing Lane, W5, Ealing. Thames Water will be attending site this evening at 7pm to rectify the fault and will endeavour to complete the works by Sunday. These works will be taking place using 4 way temporary traffic signals which will be in operation throughout the repair. We appreciate your patience whilst these works are currently being undertaken.

It's the appalling road surface. Every HGV and bus bashes and bounces from Popes Lane to the boundary with Brentford - where the road was resurfaced.The impact of heavy axle loadings - sometimes referred to as Hammer Blow transmits through the road surface, disturbing the mass of infrastructure below.The road is a patchwork of dozens of uneven repair patches. So it's no surprise that it now causing fractures to pipes and valves.Should have been properly resurfaced at least a decade ago.

Firstly, excuse my typo. Lane not Pane!I have asked the cause of the broken main considering only a few years ago the Victorian water mains were replaced with spanking new ones so it baffles me why it is 'broken'. If Victorian mains last a century, these new ones barely lasted half a decade.
