Remembrance
As the day of National remembrance draws nigh on Sunday November 8th, without detracting, it is opportune to also remember the 489 citizens of Ealing who lost their lives in the 1940 'Blitz', the so termed 'Baby Blitz' in 1941 and the subsequent V1 Flying Bomb onslaught in 1944. This figure grew as some of the many seriously injured eventually succumbed to their wounds. In addition to their normal job virtually everyone, young and old, undertook voluntary duties such as Home Guard, Air Raid Wardens, Fire-watchers, Rescue Squads, Auxiliary Firemen, Police, Nursing Services, Women's Voluntary Service etc. They also served this country with distinction in its hour of need but have no memorial except the freedom and way of life that we enjoy today The World may have changed dramatically in the intervening years, but the steadfast loyalty and dedication of that special generation, the like of which we will never see again, remains a shining example of what GREAT Britain really meant
