Smart energy device ? ???

Is it really a smart device that would help me save or is it a new device that once fitted will be controlled by a remote computer to cut my supply off, or raise the charges at a whim from the supply company HQ.?  I already have a meter that reads my usage so why do i need another device to do the same thing?I have become so suspicious of the free offer.

http://www.britishgas.co.uk/smarter-living/control-energy/smart-meters.htmlI have a feeling that they don't necessary work for all the different companies.  You should be able to reduce your usage and it is interesting to see how much your individual electrical bits and pieces use.  I'm told that you start off by rushing around the house turning off as many things as you can but then gradually (presumably after having found out which use most) settle down.I think I also remember reading that British Gas rushed one out to their customers and was then told that it didn't meet with government requirements which were subsequently decided upon.
