"Lily Fast Food" at Ealing Broadway Station
I had a chat with the guy behind the counter there a few days ago.I said how sorry I was that they were completely closing, and wondered why they weren't just moving somewhere else temporarily. I realised of course that they would have to close their present shop while the station was being re-built, but I was sad that they were ceasing trading permanently. He said that they decided it wasn't worth opening a shop somewhere else, which is fair enough, but when I asked him why they couldn't re-open again in the "new" station, I was horrified when he said that they "weren't allowed to"!When I asked him why. he said they were told that Network Rail were not interested in having shops like that in the new station. They only wanted national corporate chains like Starbucks and Upper Crust to be there.Personally I think that's appalling, and I told him so!That shop has been there decades, and has undoubtedly built up a following, and for an independent local shop like them to be squeezed out like that is dreadful.I personally will miss their delicious home made egg and bacon sandwiches and their millionaire's shortbreads!
