Angela Malik site has new cafe

The corner site on Ealing Green, where Angela Malik opened her second shop, has been taken over by a new cafe called Beehive - and it's really good! The coffee is excellent, the banana cake very tasty and the Farmer's Salad (chicken and all sorts of salady things) delicious. It's all home-made. As a local resident I'm delighted to see that site occupied again - empty shops along The Green are bad news for everyone, not least the charity that owns them. The other piece of good news is that the Green Mango café, which never really revived after the riots and has been closed for some time, will become an Italian deli soon.

Beehive sounds great! Am taking my little nephew to 'The Wind In the Willows' in the Walled Garden, Pitzhanger Manor/Walpole Park on Sunday afternoon, so we will definitely pop in for something to eat.

Standard Americano (or 'coffee' as we used to call it in my young day) is £2.00, same as Starbucks - and it tastes like coffee rather than flavoured water. From about £5 - £7 for a very large plate of eat-in salad with poached salmon or grilled chicken. Can't remember the cake prices, sorry. I think it's very good value, especially for the quality.

I'm afraid I really hate Carluccio's - the food and coffee may be OK, but it's so, so noisy! They do very good coffee ice-cream which I've purchased to be eaten elsewhere.Cote is good - especially their set lunch which is great value.Have you tried La Rueda for tapas?  It's across the street from the former site of La Siesta and I think it's even better.  Lovely salads with pomegranate seeds.  Beware though - the portions are larger than La Siesta, so fewer dishes required.  Reasonably priced Rioja too - what's not to like?

I forgot to mention the excellent Osteria del Portico(next to Carluccios), a well established Italian restaurant on The Green - they have a delightful private room upstairs(we've held several family functions in it) run by the ever pleasant and welcoming Giovanni and their open outside dining area - well worth a visit.

The restaurant and cafe scene around Ealing Green, High and Bond Streets seem to change quite a lot. Our favorites are Cote, Carluccios and La Siesta(sadly now gone) - La Siesta served the delights of tapas and paellas and had good house wines. Angela Malick's is also a victim of change, but I wish Beehive all success - we need good little restaurants, cafes and delis in central Ealing. What are your favourite eateries in the area? - the area of "moving feasts"!

I walked past yesterday and noticed that the Beehive is being run by the some of the same staff that have worked for years at Farm W5 a few doors down.  I assume the owner of the Beehive (who is the chap who used to make all the lunches at Farm W5) has gone solo and taken a few of the serving staff with him.  Either that or it's a joint venture.

Angela Malik's eatery never did seem to be as good as the new Beehive cafe - good luck to them - it always looks busy to us - its a stategic location on the corner of The Grove and Ealing Green.

Yes the beehive has got good reviews on various groups on Facebook.  Glad to see a good independent cafe and deli there. Hopefully prices are reasonable too?
