Salary of £180,000 a week!

Is a person worth £180,000 per week?  Raheem Sterling, the promising but unproven young footballer who's unhappy at Liverpool, reported to have been sold to Man City. Is this a good deal?  If so, for whom? Comments and opinion welcomed.

All sports people are considered role models  and an inspiration.  Never understood why either but it's always said so it must be true.

I have never understood why footballers etc. are expected to be 'role models'. They are normal people who have been born with a talent for playing football. Perhaps if they received 'How to be a role model' training over a period of time then fair do's. If we are all honest, and bear in mind that Joe Public like you and I have zero media interest in our lives, could we be role models all of the time? If the media looked into every nook and cranny of your life would you be a certified 'role model', especially if you had more than enough money and time on your hands to do whatever you wished?

I think its obscene, how any person is worth that when others struggle on a couple of hundred £££££We all have the same expenses, but he could buy a house outright in a few months.As for "stars"  role models, look at his history, pretty sordid

A footballer is worth every penny they are paid. They are role models and an inspiration.

If you look at it in purely mercenary terms you are right. But if I was a manager or indeed player who was committed and loyal to a club I wouldn't want his attitude in the dressing room .I wasn't referring to his satisfaction with his agent but any prospective employers. Sterling has an attitude problem as evidenced by going 'sick' in stead of training and not touring with Liverpool, by taking nitrous oxide after having the riot act read to him about that very practise, and to be seen to be not really trying on the pitch. He is in danger of becoming another Ballotelli. It's no co-incidence that Berahino (sp?), another player with good potential,at WBA has jettisoned the same agent. But he has a great manager and football man to guide him in Tony Pulis imo.

I'd assume that seeing as he has got him a move to a top 2-3 side, a tasty signing on fee and £180k a week Mr Stirling is probably pretty happy with his agent right now.An employee is worth whatever he can negotiate based on what market rate dictates and footballers are no different.  If Man City are prepared to pay that then that's up to them.

Wayne Rooney is on £250K pw Gerry. But at least our Wayne was getting 20 goals a season at the same age. While Sterling has got that disgrace of an agent I wouldn't touch him with a bargepole if I was a manager. Even the I think he's a bit lightweight yet, needs to learn his trade a bit more before we start telling him how good he is. He is very much a work in progress, and needs to change his attitude, his agent and his lifestyle (laughing gas, what's all that about?)if he wants a good career and to earn respect on the pitch.
