city radio stores

As reported last year City Radio Stores was about to close at the end of 2014 as the lease was to expire.The shop has been trading for 86 years, since 1929.I have owned the shop for the past 32 years,and am now retiring.I am pleased to say that the shopwill remain open - the business having been purchased by Tim Riley, from Pitshanger in whose capable handswill be running the shop in exactly the same manner,selling electrical accessories,lamps cable,lamp repairs - hopefully for another 86 years!

I always wondered why Peter kept that old till sitting on the floor of the shop, if I had one in a shop I owned, it would have pride of place on the counter where it could be properly admired!They keep the wotsit-it-calleds on the shelf below the thingamajigs by the way. Sadly I don't think they sell oojamaflips any more, I assume they stopped making them.

Does Tim still sell a wotsit-it-called? It was always in stock, but only after a rolling of the eyes coupled with the sound advice of getting a professional to install the fitting!By the way, I want that beautiful old mechanical till sitting on the floor. I can then have it to go alongside my bus ticket machine aartefact!

Yes, two most useful shops - City Radio and the Clay Bros hardware store on The Green - sadly missed both.

Have a wonderful retirement Peter.City Radio won't be the same without your face in there, but I'm so delighted that it's staying open exactly as before under its new owner.Along with the now sadly long-gone Clay Brothers, it was one of the increasingly rare traditional old-style shops that I was delighted to find still here when I first moved to Ealing in 1982.Long may it continue to thrive!

We've always found City Radio Stores in Bond Street W5 a very useful and interesting shop - we've used it occasionally for decades - glad its going to carry on - good luck to the new owners.

My favourite shop in Ealing, not that I go in every week but the first port of call for all things electrical and always has those things that nowhere else has.And they always know what it is one is struggling to describe!Have a good retirement. and good luck to the new owner, a Gem of a place with a shop front of enduring style.
