Yes, firstly because many are reluctant to be paid by card because being paid by cash allows them to under declare their income. Secondly because the last two time I've been unlucky enough to find myself in a black cab without enough to pay the very high fare the drivers have been particularly graceless when I asked them to stop at an ATM.
