In praise of Ealing Mangal.

Ealing Mangal is a simple, inexpensive and excellent Turkish restaurant in West Ealing(opp Daniel's). Our family went there recently - we had a selection of starters with fresh Turkish bread, lamb fillet kebabs, chicken wing kebabs, salads and house wine, followed by baklavas and coffee. Everything is cooked on an open barbeque which you can see and is fresh and appealing. Seldom do we have such tasty food in such pleasant simple surroundings and moderately priced.Btw, I'm not in any way connected to Ealing Mangal. I think mangal means kitchen in Turkish - I think.

that particular stretch (opp Daniels as it was) always smells absolutely tantalising.I have never been there although know others who have, & like yourselves it all comes highly rated.I shall visit soon

You're correct Thelma - mangal means BBQ not kitchen! I was wrong.

Hi GerryWhy are all your postings lately about food?!!I agree about Mangal.  We've been going there regularly for some years now.  I love the bread (which you can buy at Cudi in West Ealing - only 70p for a large loaf).  The lamb chops (pirzola) are to die for as well.  What really makes it for me though is the excellent salad, fresh, varied and tasty.  And, compared with many other places, it is really good value for money. The Turkish wine (especially the Yakut) is also good.  And don't forget to finish with a glass of Raki!BTW, someone told me that 'mangal' means barbecue.

I went on Friday and the food was great.  I love the way they serve it on a plate sized piece of bread.

I haven't been to the Faanoosh Persian restaurant in Bond Street W5 for some time now - is it still as good there Andy? We always liked their freshly baked bread with Persian starters and their grilled fillet of lamb with rice and vegs.

Used to go to Mangal regularly and enjoyed it.  Haven't been since the recent refurb or since the excellent Faanos Restaurant opened on Bond St.
