Courtesy Crossing - is it in the highway code?

(I guess I should know)If I leave my house on foot or car I have to negotiate one - but not sure who has right of way!? Also what's its actual defined purpose as it just seems to confuse things?

They are dangerous.  People start walking across and children cycle across without looking.  It can seem like an extension of the pavement.

Shared space is the new approach to street design, which uses the informal courtesy crossings where none has right of way.

I was under the impression they are called speed tables, similsr to speed humps, designed to slow drivers down.I have never seen any painted in the traditional colours of a zebra crossing, so its not obligatory for drivers to stop, however it would be courteous to allow pedestrians to cross safely. Nowadays you risk abuse as every one is in a hurryPersonally I wait more times than most for people on pedestrian refuges, for them to cross the other hal of the road.It is a lot easier in my truck rather than car as motorists tend to resign themselves to being slowed by a larger vehicle

Platform?  Wider than a speed hump and normally in contrasting materials to the road surface - typically brick paviors. The similarity to some "official" pedestrian crossings can lead to confusion to the young.

....it's the raise pavement, or is that raised road(?), at junctions - for example the link between Lammas and Walpole Parks.

I don't know what a 'courtesy crossing' is or should be.  Please enlighten this ignorant mind of mine.
