I was under the impression they are called speed tables, similsr to speed humps, designed to slow drivers down.I have never seen any painted in the traditional colours of a zebra crossing, so its not obligatory for drivers to stop, however it would be courteous to allow pedestrians to cross safely. Nowadays you risk abuse as every one is in a hurryPersonally I wait more times than most for people on pedestrian refuges, for them to cross the other hal of the road.It is a lot easier in my truck rather than car as motorists tend to resign themselves to being slowed by a larger vehicle
