GerryI understand your view, but in the past the gay community (especially the male gay community) has been characterised as (and pilloried for being) promiscuous. Now when gay men want to form a stable partnership (i.e. marriage) with another they are told it's unnatural and wrong. Can't win, eh?As long as no church is forced to perform any marriage ceremony which is against their doctrine, who is being hurt by allowing civil marriage between gay partners? In fact, if marriage is such a good thing (pace all religions I can think of)and a stabilising influence in society, the more of it the better.
