Have you memories of Hanwell carnival?

As June 20th approaches (way, WAY too fast) we’re putting the finishing touches to this year’s Hanwell Carnival event programme. We’re wallowing in nostalgia this year – the procession’s theme is “Historic Hanwell” (and wait till you see what we have lined up!) and we have a History Tent in the park too.  In the programme we want lots of memories from people who have been to carnival in years gone by. Have you any special memories you can share?  And if you have pics from the ‘60s/’70s/’80s ….. we'd love to see them!

Hello Viv,  your request looks rather lonely!  As President of local and at that time, well known Viking Sports Football Club, in 1968 I arranged at the request of the Football Association, a goodwill tour to Eastern Europe following the great success of an earlier visit to Russia. As described in a Daily Mail article the new coach made its debut in the Hanwell Carnival.  The tour was ill fated as the group were caught up in the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia, a story in itself.  Subsequently, as a result of the national publicity, the coach and driver Alf Manders starred in the Beatles film Magical Mystery Tour.  I have a copy of the Daily Mail article and a copy of the Carnival Photo and will gladly send them to you.  Let me know an address please.  Best wishes  Roy Bartlett
