Milk containers and soft drink bottles probablycomprise the majority of plastic waste. I've often wondered why its thought impossibleto install refrigerated milk and soft drinks dispensers in supermarkets and even outside shops, same as the old style milk machines which sold milk in tetrapak cartons.Where customers would bring along their own bottles or containers which may simply be more robust versions of the present designs.Milk is already sold in this way in Europe althoughthis seems to be limited to unpasteurised raw milk. But they seem to have solved the problem ofcleaning the nozzle between each user so that sour milk doesn't build up. And it should be possiblewith lasers, photo sensitive cells etc to dispense the milk without the lip of the customers container needing to come onto contact with the supply nozzle at all.Although possibly with the price of milk and plastics being what they are at present, there's simply no incentive. Similarly there may be resistance from customerswho at present, as soon as they pick up a bunch of bananas in the supermarket put them into a plastic bag.michael adams...
