West London Dog Rescue Lady

Many  people will have heard of  Gisella Gunsten who for decades rescued and rehomed unwanted and  abandoned dogs. At any oe time there woud have been 22 dogs in the ground  floor of her house.  She even had an  extension added onto the kitchen as an extra space just  for the dogs  to spread out on comfy sofas. Sadly last Saturday 21st. February,Gisella died in Ealing Hospital at the grand  age of 92. She still had four elderly dogs in her care.  God Bless Gisella for all the time she devoted to ease the life of so many beautiful dogs.

Toby is a lovely little dog, wasn't he on a very long lead? Hope he gets a the wonderful home he deserves. Wasn't there an Alsatian called Bella?

Thank you for your lovely suggestion Joanna.I have just come back from Gunnersbury Park after walking with the  three remaining doggies and hugging the two golden oldies for the last time. They are off to Cinnamon Trust House for Eldely Doggies  in Devon tomorrow. Toby is being taken to Dog Trust in Harefield where I work as a volunteer dog socialiser and walker. He will soon get a loving new home he is such a sweetie. Known thes doggies for 11 years so a very sad Beryl is now off to Harefield As I work there I shall be able to see how he gets on and any interest shown in reserving him for homing.

BerylDont be heartbroken. Be proudTo have friends of the stature and character of Gisella says volumes about yourself.Never knew the lady myself but I know plenty like her and I place them all on pedestals. The standing of a community can be judged on how they treat their animals -- I despair at ours sometimes but there's always the good to balance the bad.I really, really, really hope a small memorial can be done for your friend and the fantastic work she has done.Chin up!

Thank you for all your kind suggestions. Today bwill be very sad for me. I am Taking Toby to be rehomed at Harefield Dog Trust where I work as a volunteer dog socialise and dog walker. Known Toby 11 years. Also going to walk the two golden oldies for the last time this pm . Tomorrow they are being taken to Cinnamon Trust House for older doggies in Devon. by some good friends of Gisella who have been looking after all those sad doggies. Such kind devotion.  Funeral next Monday 12 pm Mortlake. Donations to Dog Trust Harefield in lieu of flowers. Hearbroken Beryl B.

Maybe we can put forward a request to plant a tree in her name ? I admit I don't know much about her, so any more details would be welcome. I sit on the Gunnersbury Park Renegeration Board and will put forward suitable ideas/suggestions. My email is joanna.dabrowska@ealing.gov.uk

I remember meeting her shortly after getting my own rescue dog from the Dogs Trust. Lovely woman who could be heard far and wide at gunnersby calling to her dogs.Sad news to hear she has passed but what a good age and way to live.RIP

RIP to herI'd not heard of her but, from how you describe her, the world is a worse off place for her lossI'd love to do more in this field myself but would find it impossible so all I can do is look after my own rescue dog as best as possible and donate what I can where I canI hope this lady's friends and family are immensely proud of what she achieved over her life.
