I rather hope it might be a branch of Metro Bank, who beat the pants off HSBC Barclays and co.That would bring local customers and businesses flocking back.A genuine local bank is so very important for local traders of all kinds who are not solely deskbound operations.

I would have thought there were enough cafés round there to satisfy local demand. I favour Amandines, which is very close to that site.

They used to be very good with the smaller customer and small business although the Midland bank, several doors down in my opinion was far better.That was in many ways proper competition, the service standards and I, as a customer was genuinely valued, no matter how modest ones finances.The fact that Barclays are not even concerned about losing a £1m turnover business or a private account which makes them money when the accounts are closed speaks volumes.The snotty letter my boss received last friday was patronising and impersonal and banged on about their highly secure internet and phone banking ( which it is far from) which suggests they have had a lot of similar actions but simply do not give a stuff about customers even all the students they spent weeks signing up at the nearby university. I hope they all switch too.

Over the years, I have banked at Northfield Avenue, Hanwell Broadway, Pitshanger Lane, Popes Lane and South Ealing.  I'm beginning to think that it's me that puts the doom and gloom on them as they all close down.Barclays does not like money, unless it is of the electronic kind.  They do not appreciate that most shops and many older customers cannot do without the banking counter for day to day purposes.  The queue at South Ealing proves that.There now only remains Ealing Broadway, where you cannot park near to the bank; West Ealing, Greenford and Sudbury, where parking is limited; or as a last resort, Wembley near ASDA, but even then there is a rumour that Barclays may open tills within ASDA stores.It cannot be said that Barclays is not business friendly, just that they choose to ignore small and community shops and businesses.

Losing the only cashmachine near the bus stops and stations is going to be a blow.Barclays were so indignant about closure of the local branches that my company is now terminating it's accounts with them after 46 years. Worth £2.2m turnover and they still have not enquired as to why.They still don't grasp why traditional banking is still a far more practicable and safe way for many businesses and individuals. As for the advertising they are currently running, well it;s high time the ASA pulled them up.Sad though as the South Ealing Branch was a good branch and always busy.
