Anyone had much experience with these new'ish hot water bottles? I'd be interested to hear your opinions. Thanks.

Some are supposed to have half a cup of water put into the microwave with them when they are heated. The trouble is that the instructions are usually on the packaging which is taken off and thrown away... and of course these tend not to be used all year long.

Thanks for the advice Paul.

Works just fine, never a problem.Mine is filled with a gel.Careful...if you mistakenly over-do the heating it will expand like a balloon and wd eventually burst.

Thanks Philippa and John for the warnings.

I think people knowing that these are so much easier to heat can become a little casual in placing them on the turntable which if it doesn't turn will cause the hot water bottle to catch alight. Also there appear to be instances when these have caught alight AFTER being put in a bed. They ought to have a warning on them so that you are reminded to take care every time you use one. Please google.

I follow the London Fire Brigade on Facebook and they often post comments about how unsafe they can be. Be safe and ensure you look into them thoroughly.

Gerry please google these to find out about the fires that have been caused by some of them. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't use them.... just that forewarned is forearmed.

I have had a couple of different ones over the years. The first was filled with a liquid of some sort and was excellent - it stayed hot for hours. That got lost in a house move and was replaced with a type containing grain. These are claimed to be better for the environment but I find it doesn't retain heat so well and you have to be very careful not to overheat this type as they can catch fire. Sadly I haven't been able to find any examples of the former more recently or I would snap them up.

Thanks Philip, I've had a look at other reviews - just thought I'd like to read a few from trusted EalingToday Forummers - but thanks anyway.

Gerry, you would hit a bigger audience if you look on Amazon, search for microwave hot water bottles, and then look at the customer reviews.
