Holocaust Memorial Day

This morning I represented our church at the borough's commemoration. It was well attended but two things disappointed me. First, there was no mention of the Armenian genocide . Ealing has the largest Armenian community in the country. I hope this was merely an unfortunate oversight and not from a desire to pacify holocaust denying Turks. Secondly what was in the programme as a service of remembrance led by the local liberal Jewish rabbi, turned out to be a talk by her only. What sort of a service of remembrance has no prayer?

IMO no way can Turkey be allowed into the EU, a club where in some countries holocaust denial is a criminal offence.i confess to avoiding the pain of holocaust portrayals on TV with one exception. Last week the BBC showed Freddie Knoller's War. For 13 years Freddie was a customer in the pharmacy i managed. An amazing Auschwitz survivor, 93 and does not look over 70.

I listened intently to an Holocaust survivor (he was in five extermination camps and survived them all) on LBC radio.The presenter who is a normally brusque individual simply listened captivated and then thanked him as there was nothing that really could be said to this remarkable man.Graham, I agree the Armenian holocaust has been 'conveniently denied' for years. We should remember that and the ongoing human rights issues in turkey when they next apply for EU membership.
