Abolutely Graham, I noticed that our streets are much worse on rubbish collection day AFTER the bins have been emptied. Of course residents should ensure they tie the black bags to prevent the contents falling out. However, it is obvious that when rubbish spills on the street this is left there by the binmen, so yes they should have someone sweeping up the mess afterwards.Residents who leave black bags and green boxes out on the pavement for days on are not helping either. Irresponsible people who throw household items in the street should be caught and fined.Sadly the situation does seem to be getting worse instead of better. If you ask someone to pick up their own litter there is a chance that you will end up being sworn at for your trouble! Our street was a 'Showcase Street' when the last administrationn was in charge of Ealing Council - you should see it now! Of course I regularly report to the council but on a daily basis we have beer cans, papers, takeaway food containers and so on, flytipped household items, drivers who empty their cigarette ends and general rubbish out on the street and drive away! It's a losing battle. With a little effort we could all enjoy living in nicer surroundings, but so many people are either selfish or simply filthy!
