Poisson Fishmongers

Sad news that Poisson Fishmongers in Northfield Avenue have closed down. I don't know the reason why but sounds like USE IT or LOSE IT syndrome.  Local shops are the heart of local community and need ongoing support to survive.

Try Mo's fishmonger at Ealing Commom Tube.Been in business for years.

Poisson although quite local was in an 'out of the way' kind of place and tended to be pricey. I still think Big Ben's fish shop is excellent - always plenty of fish, always fresh - liked their crab claws and wild seabass and their grey mullet - reasonably priced too.  A credit to West Ealing - (Btw, its near Dean Gardens).

Sadly I think he was too expensive. I totally agree, you use it or lose it but paying over the odds to support a failing business is bit like charity.

I live 7 minutes walk from the Fishmongers but it was always closed during the week by the time I finished work which I assume is the same for most people.  I popped in a few times on a saturday but just relying on saturday trade surely can't be profitable.

I think you'll find that the local Carribean and African communities keep Big Ben going (long may it remain!). We still miss 'C' Fresh on West Ealing Broadway, which closed late last year, as it was very good value and had excellent service.

Dunno about that Gerry, property prices in W13 are pretty high.Maybe its the variety of shops, open spaces, easy transport, bars, restaurants, oh I sound like an estate agent.Poisson wasn't the best fishmonger, but I did always think it was something to do with the name.

"...fishmongers tend to flourish only in the most affluent areas."Hmm?  Big Ben's Fishmongers near Dean Gardens in West Ealing seem to flourish in a not particularly affluent area.The variety of fish in Poisson was not great.

The fishmongers on Hanwell Broadway (not exactly rich pickings territory) however continues to thrive.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did, really, as I fear it was in the wrong place. The British are not great eaters of fish unless it's battered and fishmongers tend to flourish only in the most affluent areas. While Northfields is a pleasant district, it's not really expensive fresh-fish territory.
