Money transfer to someone abroad?

Which is the best and safest way to send a money gift abroad. I've been told the main banks are expensive - which transfer firm is the best please? Thanks.

Thanks, our friends on Chiswick's forum recommend PayPal too - I give 'em a try with a token £1 as you suggest. I'm schocked at how much the High Street banks charge - extortionate.

I would investigate PayPal Gerry.Both the sender and recipient need e-mail address and PayPal accounts but the fees are negligible when sending a gift and their exchange rates are very good.I would, if you go down this route, send just £1 to ensure that it is received safely and that neither party has made an error in setting up the account. If it is, then send the balance of the gift.
