Mr. King the senior can be very precious though.I was literally and almost physically shown out of the shop twenty years ago for asking to look at examples of his dovetail joints.At the time I considered, and still do consider, that this was a perfectly reasonable request given that, as you say, he is not cheap and I was contemplating entrusting the repair of a much loved family heirloom to his care.Being able to inspect a top notch dovetail is, IMO, one of the quickest ways to establish whether a new craftsman that one is contemplating placing some business with is really up to snuff.Surely (I reasoned) any cabinet maker would be proud to show off examples of his work and surely (I reasoned again) this would be normal procedure for such a craftsman.Apparently not."I've never been so insulted in my life" were his final words as I left the premises.It's a great shame because as a sometime worker of wood (strictly amateur and absolutely not up to dovetail joints) I am at least able to appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship that goes into such work.(I do however completely understand his reluctance to be defiled by the likes of MDF. :-) )
