South Ealing Post Office Raided???

Came past this morning at 05:50 to see pavement cordoned off, police car and a big hole in the shutter / frontage.Missus said she heard a big old bang about 05:45.Was it a RTA or an actual ram raid?

Spot on Mr Hayes .............Doing the Public Service job honestly & competently is no longer the belief of MPs, Councillors, Mayors, etc, it's ALL about Personal Career Opportunities now, usually in The Commercial Sector after you have right royally screwed up The Government Sector and left behind an utter mess.

It’s political ineptitude across the spectrum. The UK has been in a tailspin for decades because those in power put the interests of a few above the basic needs of many. Tories or Labour (remember those halcyon Blair/Brown years?), both equally inept. Apart from immigration it’s always NHS, crime and education that dominate national debate.In City Hall we’ve had three idiots who’ve operated it as a personal fiefdom. Spending money that isn’t there (Garden Bridge anyone?) or increasing spin to deflect from failings (Khan is worst for this). The mayor position should be scrapped. It doesn’t represent Londoners or their genuine needs.

It’s the closure of police stations and lack of beat officers that’s the problem. Ealing has 350,000+ residents, yet barely any police stations. The nearest accessible one to South Ealing is in Acton.

One was jailed in 2015 and more recently the Borough Commander was dismissed for gross misconduct in office. Aren't we fortunate in attracting such high calibre people?

I’m not sure anyone claims Ealing is crime free. Plenty of evidence to the contrary, although evidence isn’t something the practically invisible local police know how to gather.

Did anyone think it was crime free? I remember a lot of stabbings over the years. Not to mention the riots of 2011.

The Metro newspaper today reports of a local scallywag from West Ealingwho raided a Supermarket in Putney,alarming the staff..and stealing a large quantity of scratchcards.Apparently he claimed 27 winners when he visited four Ealing Post Offices to claim his prizes. £14,000 was found at his West Ealing home.So Ealing is not so crime free after all!Mr Domingo was given a 14 year sentence!

I had a quick look in today as I was in the area. There is no seating.. so I assume it's just 'take away'!It all looked clean and  respectable... as you'd expect!Hygiene Inspection Awaited  according to window signage.

Years ago "we" used to have happy Forum Meet-ups.,and jolly occasions they were  too.It was intriguing to put faces to names we had became very familiar with.The dear departed Gerry Tan (RIP) used to be the top organiser.Would this  Shake and Bake place be a suitable venue for such an event?

I'm making an important, albeit slightly off topic point.We constantly hear how things are getting worse an worse in a variety of media outlets, and all over internet forums.They're not of course.But if policy makers hear people think things are getting worse and worse they'll change what they're doing which is making things better and better to appease those that think things are getting worse and worse, and they WILL get worse and worse!For example, literacy. These days in the UK literacy is far more widespread than it ever has been. but a LOT of people seem to think the opposite, so despite the fact literacy rates have been improving for years, people seem to think what's being done to achieve this is having the opposite effect.Dangerous stuff a!?

It isn't correct that armed robbers do not have a moral code of health and safety.  Noel 'Razor' Smith, who was Britain's most notorious armed robber in the 70's and 80's would tell you that he was proud of the fact that he didn't harm anyone in his over 200 armed robberies.Despite that he also recognises those who were at the scene at the time were victims as well.

It would appear that the gas cylinder explosion approach used has until recently been a European practice. Could it be that migration is the reason for this type of attack :).To quote our very own Ealing Today on this topic:Attorney General Jeremy Wright QC MP, argued:''Using gas canisters to cause an explosion is dangerous and volatile.We have seen the number of these attacks increase substantially in Europe in the last eight to nine years, but they have only recently been seen in the UK.''

Paul, I didn't mean raided ALL the time - I think I said 'regularly' and that was the case umpteen years ago in SM'sR - one of the Post Offices used to be raided each year. That' a fact, 'cos one of our friends who was a neighbour used to ran a sub-post office there.

The police have that bit of pavement taped off so I was unable to get my planned morning coffee at Paperback. Some people have no consideration!

Is this a cash point within the post office or the one on the pavement which is situated further down towards the crossroads (outside 157 South Ealing Road?)If the latter maybe the Robbers/Professional thieves/Scum took the sign atop of the free standing cashpoint (FREE CASH) literally?

Thanks Susan.  There used to be about five post offices or sub-post offices along the whole length of St Mary's Road - I wonder how many there are now? They were regularly raided as I recall.

It's just above the junction with Popes Lane, Gerry. If only they'd tried to make their getaway through the interminable road works!

Sounds similar to a raid on the Sainsbury's ATM on Gunnersbury Lane at the weekend and apparently there was one in Isleworth the week before. Gunnersbury Lane is in Hounslow Borough perhaps explaining the lack of any appeal for witnesses.

There have been a series of cash machine thefts (the machine itself being stolen) in the last few week. There was one in Isleworth last week and one in Acton Town the week before. This is probably the latest. No one was hurt so don't be frightened just annoyed.
