Dress code for all teachers/lecturers

One thing that makes me so mad is when i see teachers or lecturers dressed in jeans and trainers or clothes that have not been washed and dirty.I am a current lecturer at a university and often you cant distinguish between student or lecturer.I tell all my students to call me Mr Murrs. I will not answer to any student who calls me Andy. I am not their mate so i deserve some respect.I would like to see a dress code implemented in all places of education. Can anyone advise me who would be the best person to write to?

All UK universities and similar establishments have websites on which they list all their teaching staff along with their departments and specialisms. That's how they try and attract students. In addition most UK academics maintain an online presence if only a Linkdin or Facebook page so as to allow people to contact them.michael adams...

To be fair, he doesn't claim to be a lecturer in English. Maybe the poor soul teaches 'sociology' or some such bogus subject.

The clues are in the poorly written post Gerry...'i' instead of I..' clothes that have not been washed and dirty'..where's the 'are' before dirty? 'I am a current lecturer'..Currently I am a lecturer makes more sense. I am not claiming to be brilliant at grammar and composition but neither am I claiming to be an academic.

This post is frankly unbelievable.What I read is illiterate and demonstrates a lack of even basic social awareness.I am well aware that standards have tumbled in the teaching profession, but this would demonstrate a step too far.Andy Murrs is obviously a con and a wind up.

My school days were in a time of academic gowns and mortar boards for masters and sets with gowns for mistresses.Cue, arrival of the American teacher who wore an open-neck shirt with an unfastened tie and an old, very old, sports jacket. Without doubt the best maths teacher I have ever encountered.  He had a gown but this never left the  hook by the blackboard.I don't give a damn what a teacher wears if they have the nous to command discipline and can impart knowledge. To focus on this shows, IMHO, that there are far deeper issues in the establishment where the OP lectures.

"...I would like to see a dress code implemented in all places of education..."Not only in education Andy, but I prefer staff in my bank branch, my dentist, GP, supermarket staff, local authority personnel and the like to be dressed in a businesslike manner. I'm old fashioned and 82 years young - that's the way I feel anyway. Others may prefer to 'casual' look - its a free world.Regarding being called "Mr" - that's not a right but a privilege and respect one has to earn imo.

Indeed if you have the intellect to be a lecturer at a University surely you have the common sense to know whom to air your concerns to?As for deserving respect, again this is usually earned and not a right of passage just because of a particular position/status held, unless of course you're the Queen?As a matter of interest what subject(s) do you teach/lecture?

There was a case a few years ago of a schoolkid who yanked a teacher's trousers down and my first thought was, 'So was he wearing tracksuit bottoms, or what?'
