Green Fields of France

Any views from the assembled wisdom of the forum on the Green Fields of France as performed by Joss Stone & Jeff Beck for the Royal British Legion?Personally I think she's destroyed a beautiful song, both musically and lyrically. It's a real pity.

I liked Jeff's guitar work, but Joss's singing left me cold.She suffers from the problem that so many modern female suffer from: oversinging. All vocal gymnastics and faux emotion with no real connection to the lyrics. I blame Mariah and Whitney.

Got to say that The Men they couldn't hang do a great version !!As to Joss Stones version she has left out the last to verses which deliver a condemnation of the futility of the First World War !! so really treating the song in contempt of its true meaning, so a shame as the song is a classic.

It's the simplicity that's missing for me (as well as a couple of verses). Joss & Jeff's versions is just way over the top. The Furey's treat it much better.

Lovely simple song done well enough by Joss Stone and Jeff Beck - but the best rendition is by The Fureys and Davey Arthur imo.

I agree...The original is beautiful and is such a classic ballad.
