If you had to choose a replacement for your own central heating boiler, which make would you choose for dependability, quality and value?

They all have their favourites Gerry. I think that Vailant, Worcester Bosch, Potterton and Baxi are among the most reliable.Avoid Keston boilers (cheap for a reason).

All depends on the make Gerry. I have known Pottertons 'soldier on' for almost 30 years and an expensive Worcester system break down so often that it was ditched after six years.A straight swap would budget at around £12-1500 more if you need new rads and pipework changes.

Speaking of boilers, what's the useful life of a gas boiler used for domestic space and hot water heating in a medium sized semi 3 beds, two receps, kit and bathroom. I know of a 15 year old boiler, maintained by the installer and still working. What are the signs of needing a replacement boiler? And what should one budget for such a replacement please? Thanks.

I would recommend West London Gas Ltd, based at Boundary House near Boston tube station. Have used them for the last two years (before that CHI Installations, who used to be good).Friendly and efficient.

You really only need Megaflow when you 'demand' more water than a combi boiler can deliver.The rest of the items you mention Gerry can combine well if properly planned and installed. Proper insulation is key to reducing the overall heat demand though.

Regarding MegaFlow - does a Megaflow system with solar panels become cost efficient for domestic water and space heating coupled with underfloor heating, heat pumps and super insulation of walls and roof? Is it the way for the future? I don't know much about central heating and would welcome some opinions. Is a Megaflow system best for new-build houses? Thanks.
