Walpole Park
The large obelisk feature in front of Spencers Cafe was officially unveiled last Friday resplendent in magnetized gold surfacing. The idea being that copper coins can be attached in aid of the Mayors Charity fund. My wife and I visited the very busy park today on our mobility scooters with a bag of coins to dutifully contribute. Rather surprisingly it was devoid of any coins. Initial thoughts were, that some official collected them from time to time, so we went ahead with our contribution in company with several other people. Having queued for coffee we were astonished to see it completely bare again then realised that children were having a whale of a time removing and pocketing the coins as fast as they were attached. Maybe not such a good idea, but good for Spencer's chocolate trade!
