What's going on at The Plough-Northfields

Just walked past there about 15minutes ago, all cornered off, lots of police aboutWhat's going on there?

It was closed at 17:00 having previously been open at 16:30.I had occasion to be passing at both these times.

OK Sorry.I went past at 15:20 and came back at 15:40 and left my phone at my friends so had to go back out at 16:30 and it was all open then.

Helen, it really does sound like a major response which leaves me wondering who was this man to merit such an enormous response, and why did he barricade himself in with the knife in the first place?

Nigel - there was a police car parked across it and a hazard tape  and cars coming down Northfield Avenue were being diverted into Windmill Road at about 4pm

I drove past there four times during the 'incident' and the road wasn't closed.

But Tracey,the police just closed Little Ealing Lane to traffic not to pedestrians, so I don't see how school children's safety could have been the reason.

The schools had broken up as there were no small children around when I drove past at 15:20.

I would suspect having 3 schools in close proximity, and the possibility of a fellow running into the street armed with a knife would warrant such a response as happened just before the end of the school day

Wow!. I wonder what the police thought might be going on? Fuller's pubs don't exactly have the best reputation in Ealing, however, this does sound a bit like overkill on the part of the police, or is there something we should know?

I find it hard to understand the huge scale of the police response to this incident, which apparently involved a staff member throwing a wobbly. At one point there must have been about 10 police vehicles, including police with arms and shields, in and around the Plough. And why did they close off Little Ealing Lane to traffic, creating traffic chaos in the rush hour?

More likely someone showing their appreciation of the Fuller Smith and Turner customer satisfaction experience having been barred and threatened for daring to complain (sorry, I mean for providing customer satisfaction feedback).

Dunno - looks serious though.Ambulance just turned up as I drove past a minute ago, so not a good day for somebody.More than the usual police presence for a standard issue pub disturbance - some kind of special ops style police van parked in Julian Road.
