Dog Attack

The horrific dog attack upon a cat and it's owners in their own driveway highlights the growing problem of dog ownership and the delicencing of dogs. All dogs should be licenced and chipped at a fee that covers the cost of doing so and deters the wrong kind of people owning dogs. This case also highlights the fact that dogs are a deterent to wild-life and should be barred from nature areas.

have you considered shame?Taking pictures of him and his dog?Pointedly sticking a kiddy's windmill into the offending steaming turd might do it?Although I did hear that some ladies who tried this in their local park a few years back were prosecuted for littering.Doesn't seem quite fair to me.

I was hoping you were right because there is one person on my street with a boxer always off the lead. Pretends even not to notice when his dog s--ts on the pavement.  BUT,alas, it seems that the rule must include a MUST NOT to be illegal. So, I guess that means the statement you highlighted is for guidance only.  Back to the council to get a bylaw I suppose.

I thought it was illegal to walk a dog off lead on the public highway.At the very least it is in breach of the Highway Code:    https://www.gov.uk/rules-about-animals-47-to-58/other-animals-56-to-58"Do not let a dog out on the road on its own. Keep it on a short lead when walking on the pavement..."

Licensed and chipped doesn't stop dogs attacking.  Being on a lead does.  As a dog owner, I get very annoyed when I see owners walking their dogs on the pavements off lead.  There is usually an altercation when one dog off lead approaches another dog on lead. Some councils have bylaws which bans off lead walking on the pavements.  Others, like Ealing, unfortunately do not.  Any councillors listening here?

I'm fairly confident that cats are more of a deterrent to wild-life than dogs!

While I fully agree this is a horrid case, its the owners in these type of cases who are the irresponsible party. But the majority of dog owners are responsible, with dogs microchipped, and well behave.But how on earth can you say dogs are a deterrent to wildlife? and banned form nature areas, utter rubbish!
