GCSE Parking charges examination questions

Dear Cllr Bassam Mahfouz,Is there any logic to parking charges throughout the Borough? On Saturday it costs £1.50 to park in West Ealing for an hour but £1.00 to park in the award winning Springbridge Road car park in central Ealing. Southall it seems from the news item has a different regime. Compare contrast and explain?

Next question. A recent parking "Survey " costing £1100 came to the conclusion that there is no parking problem in West Ealing. When asked a parking enforcement officer said he was able to write three tickets per hour in West Ealing. His normal rate in other parts of the borough is only one per hour. Discuss.

I can answer Philip's question. The reason why black cabs are allowed to use bus lanes is because of their public carriage licence  which requires passengers to alight on the left hand side.How many points for that knowledge?!

Because if they weren't allowed to use bus lanes most of their fares would have expired with cardiac arrests at the escalating bill long before they reached journey's end.

Also not quite sure why black cabs are allowed to use bus lanes, avoid congestion charge etc.

Question 3 15 pointsAt Ealing Broadway Station there is facility for 20 black cabs to wait for fares for an indefinite period. Nearby there are two 5 minute spaces for the people of Ealing to drop-off and pick-up passengers. Discuss.

No one answered this question so more easy ones to come. This is question 2.A multi-storey car park was sold to A2Dominion in West Ealing for housing and within 2 years planning permission was granted just over the road for a mosque with a 3,000 worshipper capacity. Explain using the words joined-up thinking, disabled parking, Mary Portas and coherent regeneration policy. (20 marks) (Score so far= Zero)

Yes, in the days when Ealing was enthusiastic about the Tram the council was left behind. Yes improve public transport. There was little lobbying with First Great Western for more seats. So Uxbridge, Westfield and other places have made Ealing a place just for locals to shop and not very good at that. So a lost opportunity

Peter - I'm pleased it's not only me who thinks this!I know of 3 people plus myself who live in the borough but now rarely visit Ealing Town Centre citing the difficulty of paying for and getting out of the car parks.  When the traffic lights were put in by The Grove pub, it added 30 minutes to the experience.Waste of time. Uxbridge isn't perfect but I find it a pleasant place to visit.  Harrow is a bigger pain than Ealing.I'm sympathetic to measures to encourage people out of their cars but imo these need to be transparent and stand half a chance of working.

Very good question that one. Some strange Parking policies in Ealing. We have lost out to Uxbridge and other shopping centres because of the anti-car policies.
