Can't quite see why tarmac is so awful myself - at least it's practical.I'm not an expert but it's probably down to cost. When tarmac paths start to crack, maybe as a result of tree root incursion, presumably they need to dig bits up and patch it with hot tarmac. Then smoothit with a roller. And that's when they finally get round to it.With gravel, the paths won't crack, or at least sobadly, and any problems they do have just can be solved with a wheelbarrow loaded with more gravel. Then smoothed over with the back of a shovel. michael adams...
