Gunnersbury Park restoration

Does anyone know if a Contractor has been chosen for this or procurement route?Just curious as to who may be used for this scheme and when it's likely to kick off

Are the Gunnersbury Park gravel paths to be loose gravel, or gravel pressed into tarmac (like in Walpole Park)?

Can't quite see why tarmac is so awful myself - at least it's practical.I'm not an expert but it's probably down to cost. When tarmac paths start to crack, maybe as a result of tree root incursion, presumably they need to dig bits up and patch it with hot tarmac. Then smoothit with a roller. And that's when they finally get round to it.With gravel, the paths won't crack, or at least sobadly, and any problems they do have just can be solved with a wheelbarrow loaded with more gravel. Then smoothed over with the back of a shovel.  michael adams...

Years ago, we used to take our children and their friends to the boating lake in Gunnersbury. We played a sort of 'touch boats' game which was great fun, until a 'parkie' told me off for being a careless father! We then tried the putting greens - again the 'parkie' said we were behaving badly. In the winter we'd sledge down the long slope from the museum to the bottom of the slope - great fun! The 'parkie' approved of that pursuit!

The others plans appear to me (from just reading them) to be good. I used to love the boating lake and my poor old Dad hated rowing so much but I would make a fuss until he took me out ! Spoilt brat.

Lets hope it's not the same lot who appear to have done a a grass version of tarmacing the drive at Walpole park!
