Essential shops in Ealing ?

Some of us complain that we have too many betting and charity shops, estate agents and restaurants/cafes. We're missing some essential ones - which types of shops do we need?

Cleggs indeed they used to sharpen drill bits - remember that? They also had the most wonderful display of Victorinox (Swiss army) knives in the right hand window.Don't remember them at all :-)

Nigel - Shellshear's in west Ealing? Lummy days, that's going back decades!  I think there was a Shellshear's in Greenford Avenue, too.  And Lightwaites (spelling?).  And do you remember Cleggs (Clegs?) on Hanwell Broadway?  Industrial tools and measurement equipment.  Hideously expensive - but they had EVERYTHING in stock .... drill bits, every conceivable size and type of tap, dies, vernier gauges.  Lovely shop.

Haven't been in there for quite some time as my last visit was met with a guy who really didn't know which way was up!I miss Manor Home Stores in Boston Manor, Shellshears in west Ealing and Clay Brothers. Wright's on Northfield Avenue closes soon as well.

There used to be great little shops in Ealing like Sellar Bros, Mo's Enterprises. City Radio and Clay Bros - now only a few exist. We've been using Ealing Board and Timbers for ages - an excellent local hardware store thar still sells nails and screws by weight!

"A good non-chain hardware shop"      Ealing Boards and TimbersOkay, it's not what it was (before it was taken over by the new owner a few years ago), but you can still buy your nails by the pound (or the kilo!) and the range of ironmongery in stock is very good.On my visit late on Saturday afternoon I was pleased to observe that they have once again starting to employ staff that actually know something about what they are selling.
