Where for an October holiday break?

Are there any recommendations for a really good location for a late autumn break, comfortable beds essential, good food and wine a "must" and warm and appreciative welcome desirable. Doesn't need to be coastal - in the UK please?

Limewood hotel in the New Forest. Angela Harnett restaurant - beautiful countryside and cost too if you want it. 1hr 30 mins away.
