Pride £3.90 at The Globe, Brentord. No wonder I prefer to drink at home.

There was a notice board outside the Black George yesterday saying that all pints where £2.50 between two and five pm. Then you look at what Wetherspoons charges, and you really do wonder about the value you are getting at Fullers Pubs, the Kings Arms, New Inn, etc. Certainly the service is not any bettet.

The Black George on the Uxbridge Road, West Ealing has board outside advertising "All pints - All day" for £3.00. Presumably still making a profit after all overheads and one wonders what margins the pricier (Fullers?) pubs are generating.

The newly reopened Grosvenor does a good range from independent brewers among them Trumans ( not Ben Truman ! ) Sambrookes , Weird Beard , Twickenham - £3.70 for the 4% session beers with a loyalty card scheme 8 pints one free.

Went to the Kings Arms after running the Ealing Half yesterday. £9.10 for a pint of Landlord and a pint of Guiness. Damn!
Andy Vaughan ● 4254d
The Twickenham Brewery does a much better range imo as does the Windsor and Eton.

A virtual monopoly of pubs around there allows FST to 'exploit' their dominance.

Fuller's usually charge top dollar for their extremely average (imo ) range of beers.
For about five years in the early 1960s, The Grange was our 'local', being yards from our little tow-up-two-down artisan's mews cottage. Its was a cosy traditional pub with a large fireplace in the saloon and a cheerful atmosphere - we used to drink cheap Spanish plonk as I recall. Its changed quite a few times since, not for the better imo - times change.

But then that dreadful word that has killed the English pub reared its ugly head: "GASTRO PUB". The dollar (not pound) signs lit up in the eyes of the PubCos and the breweries and a whole segment of English life disappeared overnight.

Broke my journey from the Broadway to Northfields Thursday last week at the Red Lion pub opposite Ealing Green. I stayed for exactly one pint of lager, FOUR POUNDS FORTY PENCE for a pint of weak lager, began with a "C", Carling I think? Are all Fullers pubs this expensive in Ealing, or was I just unlucky in my choice?
It used to be a great place for a pint and heaving on a Friday/Saturday night.

No you are not paying for an Ealing Common view, you cannot just sit in the raised area overlooking the Common, even if it is completely empty it is the RESTAURANT area. Greed has prevailed in this pub and where once you could have a pint overlooking the common the current lot of trash who took it over did away with that immediately. This is not a pub, it is a less-than-average quality restaurant housed in a pub. Avoid unless you want to get fleeced.
It is also the best kept pint of London Pride in Ealing.

Grapevine bar at Questors, £2.90. I am going to become a member.
Graham Weeks ● 4256d
Is it a free house or tied to Smith's?
Keith Iddon ● 4263d
The price I quoted in Harrogate is at a free house IIRC.

There is a Sam Smith's in Old Isleworth, The Town Wharf, right on the river too, lovely spot. Sam's beers have increased in price and the difference between the price of their beer and of 'normal' beer is greatly reduced but it is still significant. I am in a social club in Brentford, £2.90 for Guinness(no cask beer) and one in Chiswick £2.85 for best bitter on cask.

On the rare occasions I drink in town I always head to sam smith's pubs as they are a lot cheaper and the beer is nicer anyway. my friends from Yorkshire always have a guide when they come to London and I usually meet them in one of the sam smiths pubs

Although live in W13, I actually travel to the Wetherspoons in Hounslow (Moon Under Water, Staines Road), Abbot is £2.30, Guest Ales £2.15 Except Mondays when Guest Ales are £1.95, Wednesday Guest Ales are £1.75.

On a previous thread I told of a pint for £1.40 at my brother's local in Harrogate. Samuel Smith's no less.
Graham Weeks ● 4264d
There is always the Sir Micheal Balcon in The Mall !!!
Simon Swinn ● 4264d
Yep.The price of a pint now even keeps me out of the pub. :-(
Tony Colliver ● 4264d
Drink Ale it's cheaper.
Lee Page ● 4264d
over £5 in The Grange for a pint of Peroni.Must be paying for an Ealing Common view!
Simon Wycombe ● 4264d
£2.55 at the WebleyMind you, that is 253 miles away in Llandudoch :-)
Nigel Brooks ● 4264d
£3.60 at the Beehive in Brentford, but drink at home does not reflect council charges on pubs, supermarkets get no blame or cost for drunken behavour.
