Car Wash at TESCO at Gillette Corner

There was a thread on here recently about car valets. I posted on this about my reservations at using one off of South Ealing Rd and I think I mentioned the one at TESCO Osterely. Today I went against my better judgement and put the car in at TESCO Gillette Corner whilst I went to a meeting at SKY. So here I am issuing a WARNING to all to stay away from this place!!!!I returned after over 2 hours and was shocked at the state the outside of the car was left in. The "Main Man" came to me and said it wasn't finished and would be done in 2 or 3 minutes. Off I went to get a sandwich and 10 mind later returned to see the car still not done to a good standard and the bloke washing it starts arguing with me that these marks aren't down to him and won't come off. He slaps more polish on and what surprise with a little bit of effort we have an area of the car which is okay but the rest still naff. Then the killer....I noticed a huge scratch across the roof by the windscreen which was fresh and 1000% wasn't there before. Cue the "Main Man" returns and an almighty row kicks off with him accusing me of not wanting to pay. Apparently he's a professional and it's impossible to make these scratches with soap, water and a sponge. It didn't take long for the East European workforce to gather around giving me the folded arms and one eyed glare.It was only after I did one and insisted on paying for a crap job that it dawned on me.... The scratches where perfect arm length and would've been caused quite easily by a watch!!!!I'm still fuming but you've got no chance with these dogs so all I can do is warn as many people off as I can.DONT USE THE CAR WASH AT TESCO OSTERELY!!!!

Point taken.Thing is, my experience is that, on average, they do a better job than the non-immigrant car wash firms.A moral dilemma...

The fella wasnt wearing a TESCO uniform when I was having a stand up row with him.Good shout though... I may well seek out someone in store next time I'm down there. It'll go nowhere but might make me feel better.

Always been happy with the guys at the back of Impact in West ealing, used to be Iranians, not sure what they are now.If you were not happy with the Tesco one why did you not complain to the store manager? the Main Man as you say wears a Tesco uniform so must actually work for Tesco

No, I don't support illegal immigration either but given that it does go on I am much happier if the illegals are actually working for a living whilst here.

My wife has had a similer experience at Tesco Osterley and thus switched to the nearby Home Base at the Gillett corner where she has been extremely happy with their work.

Lets have it right.... the vast majority of these hand car washes are no more than fronts to clean more than cars. The business is pure cash transactions and ideal for rinsing dirty money from "other ventures". Chuck in some untraceable illegals or people with dodgy i.d's who can be paid just under £10k a year and it's happy days for Mr BigNone of that detracts from my point that I'm gutted at myself for not sticking to my principles and allowing these ****'s to damage my car AND do a crap job!

Nothing to do with ideology Tony..I am just not quite so gullible as some. I do not doubt that some of these car washes are legit but I don't support illegal immigration in any way shape or form but you appear to think differently. How do you think many of the people who hide in containers or to the underside of a lorry make a living when they get here?

I don't see how any of your objections address the point being made that the quality of the job was a good one.I have had excellent work done by the immigrants working at the car wash opposite Northfields station and (many years ago now) I have had very poor work done by the immigrants working at the Iron Bridge car wash.Your objection seems ideologically based to me. It's a reasonable enough POV, but it does not speak to the quality of work obtainable at the various enterprises.This, as is basically always the case whatever service one is in the market for, depends upon the attitude of the people delivering it.

Don't be so naïve...the car cleaners at Sainbury's Chiswick are nicked from time to time. It's a well known way of paying illegal immigrants cash in hand money and the only people who really benefit are the unscrupulous. It is an unskilled job that we do not really need doing, one move up the ladder from windscreen washing at traffic lights . Some places are no doubt legit but take the wool from your eyes.

I never use automated washes.The chaps at the Iron Bridge use fluffy wash cloths and dry off with clean microfibre cloths.As to 'creating jobs for immigrants'. Some of the chaps have been there for years and I would have thought that the BIA would have picked up anything illegal by now.

Automated car washes and human car washers can easily damage car paintwork.The once enterprising and high quality hand car washes have descended into something quite different. It's a dirty business.The slightest bit of grit in a sponge or cloth will scratch the paintwork and even glass.Chamois leathers are even worse for scratching paintwork. They have to washed out and cleaned dried and soft rinsed very regularly.The bottom line is wash your car yourself and do it properly. Yes, it will take about 45mins to do it properly and thoroughly, but your car will still look great for years.

These car washes are about the worst example of creating an unnecessary 'job' for immigrants as you can get imo. Why would you need someone to travel thousands of miles to come and wash your car? Will they clean your boots too? Go to the automatic car wash at the Tesco garage.

Never would as I have seen the filthy water and cloths that they use Colin,The hand wash by the Iron Bridge is excellent Hand wash and dry, wheels cleaned and tyre dressing £5
