noisy bus engines

Why are the engines of most of the E2 buses so noisy. They sound as though they are falling to bits !

The E2's that sound worst are the 2010 reg not the older stock. To experience a real boneshaker try a 297 with the eliptical lights inside.

There are a few very noisy and fume-ridden buses in Ealing.  As a matter of interest, the buses in and around Leeds Yorkshire seem to be relatively smooth and silent and are really clean and comfortable inside - pleasure to ride 'em.

I noticed that of late the buses on the E2 seemed to have aged by several years and much older noisier buses have appeared. The usual ones marked 'VW' are not at all bad with quite comfy seats compared to most other new buses.

Buses on the E2 have taken a turn for the worse. Old boneshaker models have been introduced recently. If you sit on the top deck going down Northfield Avenue everything on the bus and in your body shakes. These buses are noisy and have a musty smell about them. The service has also deteriorated, At one time the E2 was really frequent but not any more.

"Aren't they using the dual power ones ?"The hybrids? No, not on the E2.  They use Volvo-engined buses, the B9TL version.  TfL had many complaints about the previous Volvo B7TL, and at one point stopped ordering Volvo-engined buses until about 400 B7TLs had been modified to reduce the noise from the cooling fans.I don't know whether the B9TL suffers from a similar problem.  If anyone thinks the noise is excessive, they should complain to TfL.  Experience with the B7TL shows that complaints can result in action being taken.

I've noticed this as well but only on the E2 'stock' they sound like a bucket of bolts.
