Used bicycle shop ?

Our young friend who's starting at uni has wisely decided not to buy a car, but instead, spend her windfall gift on accommodation and books.  Her grandparents and parents now want to buy her a good quality used bicycle rather than a car - question is:  Where should they buy a good quality used bike? She wants to use it in term time to get around and to explore the local countryside.  Any suggestions please? Thanks.

My daughter uses a site called pinkbikes for her mountain bikes tell them to have a look on there as it covers the whole country

Why not buy it from a bike shop near her Uni?Saves transporting it up there and she can build a rapport with a 'local' supplier.

It's worth asking the London Bike Hub as they sell some second hand bikes - http://www.ealingbikehub.co.uk?page_id=56  There Bikes in Hanwell sell a few ex-demo bikes along with beautiful new bikes but not at budget prices.
