Care Quality Commission

Of note from BBC local news this morning is that Northwick Park Hospital, one of the alternatives now that Hammersmith and Central Middlesex A&E departments are closing, has been rated "in need of improvement" while Central Middlesex has been rated as "good".You couldn't make this up.

If chief executive of the whole NW London Hospital Trust David McVitie cannot manage adequate improvements in favour of the huge numbers of residents in Ealing and around, then he should get out pronto. He should make space for someone who actually does care about us and does have the competence to deliver. Julian Bell should make this clear

I have no plans but we can't just sit happily listening to the band playing as our hospital services are stripped awayaround us. Have you any suggestions?

I aimed to avoid these pages otherwise Phil Taylor and I might end up boring you all. However this latest news on the BBC is really worrying. This Shaping a Healthier Future Team have got this wrong as well. Fancy closing a "good A&E" and sending patients to one which is seriously over subscribed and with a lower rating.The whole affair has a "Titanic feel " about it. Ignore reality and plod on with plan A. Anyone fit enough may wish to make their protest felt. Please send me an email if you would like to join me to protest on 10 Sept.

King Edward's was good but I feel that it would be unable to cope with the complex problems with which many hospitals now deal Gerry.It also (as did we all) had e benefit of GP's who did not have the 'eight minute' slot and were able to diagnose rather than simply 'push a scrip of antibiotics' or 'write a referral. This places enormous pressure on overstretched A&E Departments as does the inability to get a GP appointment when you actually need it.I am fortunate in having a GP who pays no little, if any, heed to the 'get them in, get them out' mentality.

So what's the latest news on the A&E facilities for Ealing dwellers?  Long ago, we had a local 'cottage hospital A&E' at King Edward's Memorial Hospital at the end of our road. They were ace! Its long gone now, sadly.
