Jazz Festival starts today Wed 23 July 2014

You can click through the days and also when on the day click on the name of the performer/s and find out more. The programme is also downloadable.And if I was clever with computers I could have given you a link at the top which you could have just clicked on to get there but I'm not so I'm afraid you will have to cut and paste. :(

Saw/heard a great Zambian/Scottish singer and band in the smaller tent:  Namvula.http://www.namvula.com/musicBut the recycling makes me weep.  Really why do they bother?  They should be getting better at it year after year but what we get is spare green garden waste wheelie bins with unlaminated and unclear pieces of paper sort of stuck to them.  Talk about about a token gesture.  We should be nearer to the winning recycling and waste solutions that is here:https://www.facebook.com/1000bins/timeline(The second winner purple ones - I saw a version of these at the Jazz Festival at Glynde.  The Plastics one included a picture of plastic cups ie the polypropylene (PP) glasses that you get your drinks in from the bar.  Most food sellers at festivals are used to being asked to provide compostable plates and cutlery and ours with our curry at the Ealing Jazz Festival were - only it wasn't evident where to put any food waste and compostable cutlery...) I wish people wouldn't put "Mixed Recycling" on bins - it doesn't mean anything unless the words are illustrated showing us which different items since our Councils recycle different items.  Another lost year.

There are a few additions and notable absentees to the food stalls this year.  The Tagine stall is still there thankfully and there is now a Jamaican stall selling Jerk chicken/pork, patties, and curry goat/ox tail.  The Jerk chicken was awesome.Sadly the crepe stall is no longer :(

Thanks Philippa - I'm told there's going to be good streetfood stalls at the Festival - tagines, Thai curries, paellas etc - must go and sample some tasty al fresco food - thanks again.
