Breaking News!!

Doorbell just rang and a person with an Irish accent claimed to be from the London Air Ambulance and was collecting money for them.  Very impressive ID badge, black binder with various official brochures, papers one with RBS stamped across the top.  I expect this is a scam as the London Air Ambulance was used in a scam a couple of years ago.  Tell any of your elderly neighbours to wary.

Absolutely right.I did some 'door to door' for a cancer charity and was always happy to be challenged. If at all suspicious, always say that they can call back after you have checked that are on a 'police registered collection'.

Thanks Nigel.  I just found out that evidently they do canvassing according to a website with their name.  Maybe it was legit, and I'm feeling a bit bad about reporting them.  However, the police was just here asking me more questions and didn't seem to know they were in the area.  According to the website, the police are always told when they are in an area.

I reported it to 101. They have requested that I ask anyone else who comes into contact with this person to call them on 101.  You can use the reference # CAD 5176 and today's date 3 July.  Try to get a good description e.g. clothes, colour of hair etc.
