Parker's Bakery

As a kid in the 1950s Parker's Bakery was a joy to visit.  There were two branches in Ealing, both on the Uxbridge Road, one near the Broadway, one at the Hanwell end of West Ealing.  Although we moved from Ealing to Hayes in 1952 we would return to shop in Ealing at regular intervals and buying freshly made bread and rolls - as well as their jam doughnuts - at Parker's was a highlight.  There was also a branch in Southall, also on the Uxbridge Road, which we frequently visited.

We'll be shopping in Northfield Avenue later today to sample the festive delights of a splendid street event - well done the good shopkeepers and owners for their Family Fun Day in Northfield Avenue and for their excellent shops - thanks, you're a credit to Ealing.

What's so special about a 1933 penny coin Nigel? Are they rare and valuable perhaps?

Not necessarily a 1913 penny but if you have a 1933 edition, you can take as much bread as you can carry. (I believe there were only 7 minted)

I wonder, if in addition to Parker's nice offer , the Northfield Avenue Traders' Association will encourage butchers in the Association to offer new season West Country lamb at cost prices? It would be a lovely gesture.

This Saturday, 12th July, Northfield Avenue Traders Association (NATA) are holding their Family Fun Day.  Many of the shops on Northfield Avenue will be displaying their goods but also providing entertainment for all the customers, starting at midday.  PARKERS however, will be taking this opportunity to celebrate completing their first 100 years Baking in Ealing which started in 1913 in West Ealing by Thomas Parker. To commemorate the centenary, Parkers  will be selling a loaf of bread for the original price of ONE PENNY.  (An OLD penny, of course).  One per household; whilst stocks last.

Every Saturday morning, there's a long'ish queue outside Parker's Bakery shop in Northfiels Ave. We usually try to avoid the queue by going early - newly baked bloomer bread and crusty rolls and a few cream slices - always deliciously fresh.

I remember all three branches well and Mrs Parker was a dear friend of my late father.The West Ealing shop is now Santander (it always had lovely looking wedding cakes in the window) and the Southall shop was the last 'non ethnic' retail shop on Uxbridge Road.You can still see the original bakehouse doors for the West Ealing shop if you walk down Brownlow Road.
