Highway men in Olde Ealing?

Here's a request to all local history buffs...were there ever highway men terrorising the travellers on the old Uxbridge Road in the Ealing area?

I used Uber when i was stuck in London during the tube strike and they were great. I will use local firms when i can but sometimes a quick drink after work can result in a late night and Uber pick you within minutes.

We've heard about Uber Susan, but never used them. Are they good as taxi transportation anyone?

Bloody rip off merchants. Once, returning from a long trip, I literally did not have the energy to walk to the Heathrow tube to get the Piccadilly Line to Boston Manor and then a minicab home, so thought a black taxi wouldn't be more than about £30. How wrong I was. About £58 and the bloody driver had the cheek to ask me if I needed to stop at the cashpoint. Never again

I believe there are yarns about Dick Turpin stopping in at the Halfway House in West Ealing, but have nothing to substantiate that by.

Oh I don't think minicab drivers are bad - we use minicabs quite a lot and find the drivers are very helpful and honest - not dare I say the same about blackcab drivers, who recently charged £55 for a trip from Heathrow to central Ealing - that was 'highway robbery' imo!

Plenty, in fact they are still doing it today except they are now called Taxi drivers.
