Best classic afternoon tea in Ealing?

Which restaurant or hotel offers the best traditional English afternoon tea in Ealing please?  As a 'thank you' treat, I'd like to give three kind elderly folk a fine pre-bookable afternoon tea locally. Advice please. Thanks.

The occasional traditional English afternoon tea is something my wife and I love. Its a pity we can't indulge more often in this busy hectic life we tend to lead. What are your favourite dainty sandwiches? And do you pour tea before milk? What's the "done" thing?

Visited the tea room at Horsedon Farm at the weekend. Is it beautifully done, decorated in old English country house style, with exquisite china and amazing cakes. The garden is so pretty! They are only there till end of September so go down while you can. We just had tea and cake for £4 but I will bo going back soon for a full afternoon tea for £15 - A little Gem!!!!!

The tea room is located at Horsenden Hill Farm, a short walk north from Perivale station on the Central Line that will take you past Perivale Library, Cafe Rendezvous, Perivale Community Centre, a smattering of Victorian cottages opposite a children's playground, across a small bridge over the Grand Union Canal and past the Ealing Canoe Club, just before you reach the golf course.

Alex - the site editor sometimes removes posts if she thinks they may be simply advertising a business or service.  Other forum users may have asked her to do this.Posts aren't typically removed if people make it clear that they are recommending somewhere and are not connected with its running.Can I ask - approaching from Tesco, where exactly is the tea room?Thanks.

I'm glad I found this thread last week :) I have my sister visiting on the weekend and I really wanted to take her for afternoon tea somewhere in Ealing but alas, there are hardly any nice tea shops in Ealing!  Bill's does a nice enough afternoon tea but I want a nice café..  So, I have booked us into The Tea Box on Saturday.  Thanks for the tip Nigel, you are my fountain of knowledge on this forum!

Your 'taster' afternoon tea at Angela Malik's place sounds delicious and different from cucumber sandwiches and cakes - glad to hear Angela Malick's is serving good afternoon teas. Must go again to see for myself.

I had a meeting with Angela Malik on Tuesday to do with our school fair and she road tested the afternoon tea with me and my colleague. A nice twist on the traditional. Chicken tikka sandwiches with chutney, samosas and plain scones (large!) with elderflower and goosberry jam and clotted cream.  Served with tea of your choice. lovely!  You really should try it.

I won't tell myself anything Susan but I will ask why you appear to be having a pop at me for no apparent reason? How, why and for what resaon one of my past relationships ended is none of your business and neither should it be of interest to you.Is it because you too don't know how to make a decent cup of tea, putting the milk on the tea bag before the hot water?

Milk in second every time. I like to see the colour of the tea, it has to be dark brown and strong enough to stand the spoon up in. A ex-girlfriend of mine used to put a tea bag (itself a compromise)in a mug and then the milk(!) before adding the hot water. I soon put her right on all that nonsense...

Milk in first only if drinking from fine porcelain.Personally I'm a 'milk second' person as the tea 'scalds' the milk if added afterwards and it does affect the taste.

It was a sad day when West Ealing lost the old Daniels store.  I always liked its restaurant - quaint, a tad eccentric, and traditional.  Does anybody know what became of the Polish guy who kept it going for so long?

The only places I could think of would be the Double Tree or Xanadu.... I've no idea if either do them or the standard.Have had a couple of blinding one's up town.The Reform Bar & Grill does a good one.The International in Westminister is brilliant The best of the lot that I've tried is The Savoy - sheer decadence

GerryIf they are prepared to travel a little I can heartily recommend either Newen's 'The Original Maids of Honour' on the Richmond Road (just beyond Kew Green) or The Tea Box on Paradise Street, Richmond.Both offer a reservation service (actually essential at The Tea Box) and both do a lovely traditional afternoon tea.The only other decision is do you put the cream or jam on the scones first?
