Rat pest control

In recent weeks, myself and several neighbours have noticed a few rats in our gardens and the back alley.  And not just at night time. Can anyone recommend a pest control company that will investigate our rat problem ?? I'm speaking to the council also, but we would like a company to find the nest/nests....  We've put down traps etc but it doesn't seem to be working.

We had the exterminators out because my neighbours had rats in their garden but were using our garden as a rat run. The exterminator told us NOT to bait too often as all you do is attract rats to the 'food' and the bait will generally only kill one rat (but attract lots more).Eventually we plumped for getting a cat and for the last year haven't seen a rat at all (we've had the cat for just over a year).

Don't know about rats in the garden and alleyway, but this year we have several field mice living beneath our garden sheds - they're harmless enough. Next door's cat killed a couple and left them on our back doorstep.

There are also several youtube videos on how to make your own rat/mouse trap using a large bucket 1/3 full of water, a 2 litre plastic pop bottle, a coat hanger, some peanut butter and a short length of wood. I am useless at posting links but I found it easily enough without one.

Derrick,I live near a canal and have the same problem from time to time. I have a squirrel trap which I bait with bread or cake smothered in peanut butter (rats love it, I hate it) and leave a trail of pieces into the trap. You can disguise the entrance to the trap with leaves and dead shrubbery etc. This works quite often.Otherwise you can try a chap called Peter York in Isleworth. I don't have the number to hand but google Peter Yorke pest control and the site pops up. Good luck.
