Silicon Valley found to be dumping rubbish illegally
The owner of an internet café has been ordered to pay £1,000 after being found guilty of not disposing of the company’s waste properly.
Abdirahman Jogow, owner of Silicon Valley, Uxbridge Road, West Ealing, appeared before Acton Magistrates Court on Thursday, 21 May, where he pleaded guilty to not disposing of the café’s waste properly. He was fined £500 and ordered to pay £500 in costs.
As part of checks carried out by Ealing Council envirocrime prevention officers, it was determined that there was not a waste disposal contract in place for Silicon Valley, leading officers to conclude that Jogow was dumping his rubbish illegally.
The law requires all businesses to have a waste agreement in place with the council or a private contractor and Jogow had failed to do this, despite warnings from the council. He now has signed up to Ealing Council’s pre-paid sack scheme.
Ealing Council Executive Director for Environment and Customer Services, Keith Townsend, said: “This business had shown a disregard for the laws about proper waste disposal, as well as for other businesses who pay to dispose of their waste in the right way. This result is thanks to the hard work of envirocrime officers, and other businesses should be warned that we will not tolerate people littering the borough.”
